Historical background
KesselsGranger DesignWorks was founded in 2006 by Steven Kessels and James Granger. Both business partners graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven; an institute recognised by media including the New York Times in 2003 as "without question, currently the best design academy in the world."

Prior to the foundation of the company each partner developed work experience at leading design bureaus and ateliers.

Future plans
KesselsGranger DesignWorks develop projects on an international level. The future in our strategy is to research new markets.

James Granger

Born in England on 9th March 1983, James Granger grew up in The Netherlands. From an early age he showed a deep seated passion for art, cars and design. Already in discussion with chief designers at Jaguar Cars and Ford Design at the age of 12 and 16 respectively for design possibilities in the future, James already had a clear vision of his career from an early stage.

He attended the Design Academy Eindhoven to broaden his design horizon, specialising in the Man & Mobility department. Here projects included a sponsored interior project with Automobiles Renault.

Whilst still at college James worked as a design consultant at Enthoven Associates Design Consultants in Antwerp, Belgium. With this team he worked on a number of road / rail transport and furniture projects, some of which developed into prize-winning production models.

After graduating from the Design Academy in January 2006 he decided to realise his long-time dream of opening his own design studio specialising in, amongst other things, automotive design.

Already within the first year of opening his studio, James Granger styled the Autodelta Brera J5 3.2 C, a high performance bespoke car based on the production Alfa Romeo Brera, which was launched in Monaco in September 2006.

Steven Kessels

Steven Kessels was born in Roermond, the Netherlands, in 1981. Working out ideas, designs and advising clients, his specialisation lies in interior design for houses, hotels, stores, galleries, as well as unique furniture and interior objects.

Steven graduated at the Art Academy Genk in Belgium with a degree in architecture and applied visual arts. Here his direction was art history and contemporary art.

Due to his love for creating extraordinary shapes and shaping ideas, Steven enroled at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He graduated from the “Man and Wellbeing” direction in February 2007.

One of his challenges is creating objects that search the border between functionality and sculpture. For Steven, his creations tell a story. They need to have an emotion and appearance, as well as possess individuality.

By seeking for exclusivity in design, Steven’s vision is confirmed by using authentic materials handmade with craftsmanship. Materials like aluminium, bronze, precious metals, glass and special sorts of wood make the base for his objects and products.

Steven also experiments with very modern high-tech materials and solutions, which often results in an innovative and contemporary design. His designs are not compromised in view of function, price or quality, as he strives for perfection. Due to this, he generates freedom to investigate the vague area between art and adopted art, such as design. Steven Kessels has exposed several times at national and international levels, including the Holland Art Gallery (part of the Bijenkorf department store), Artemis Dutch Design Hotel (Amsterdam) and Chateau Le Puget in Carcassonne (South of France).
